The kids are back to school. The days are getting shorter and the nights are getting cooler. Fall is the perfect time to enjoy time together as a family. Here are Five activities to get you started.
Get Outside
Perhaps nothing says fall is here like the changing of the leaves. On the east coast this begins the middle to the end of October in most years. From Vermont down to the Great Smokey Mountains some of the most spectacular shows of colors can be seen. The “beauty” of enjoying this Fall splendor is the relatively low cost. Unlike many attractions, some of the best viewing spots are available from public access points.
Farm Visit
Lots of farms have fall festivals, pumpkin patches, and hay rides this time of year. A lot of fun can be had as a family enjoying what your local farm has to offer. While enjoying being outside be sure to take advantage of what the farm has to offer in regards to local products that can normally only be found this time of year. Many farms offer agri-tourism activities such as corn mazes, etc. to enjoy.
Enjoy a Game
It’s been said Americas Pastime is the ball park. Fall is the end of the season for baseball fans and the beginning of Football season. While it’s nice to enjoy the big game of professional franchises, many areas have a local minor league team in addition to most local schools. The thrill of seeing the hometown team win will leave memories for a lifetime.
Head to the Beach
While most people see the beach as a summer activity the Fall can be the perfect time to visit. The beach tourism season has ended yet most businesses are still operating and the crowds of summer are gone. Deals on places to stay and family activities can be found at a much lower cost now that the summer has past. While cooler nights have usually arrived, warm days still linger, and the water temperatures haven’t yet begun to cool down.

Haunted House
While maybe not the best activity for small children, the older ones will love a good haunted house or forest. Lots of small town fire companies put on haunted houses as fundraisers during the Halloween season. Give those teenagers a good scare with good clean fun.
